Wormwood

Just one more for the day/evening...

I discovered this creepy character by accident as I was surfing around the web tonight. What is it about tentacles that are so creepy? Anyways... here he is below with some of those creepy tentacles. :)

Wormwood: is a comic book series by creator Ben Templesmith.

Blue pencil roughs and then let 'er rip with markers and brush pen and copic grey tones. Done.

Awe Crap!

Haven't drawn Hellboy in ages... well, actually... haven't drawn much at all really until yesterday and today so now having done a bunch of "warm ups"... I figured I would give him a go. I like it.

Sketching and inking practice... Anger Management - NSFW. Nudity

Last night I was surfing through Deviant Art and picking random pieces done by other artists to use as reference while I warmed up and practiced sketching. I haven't drawn much in ages so needed this badly. Today... I decided to take some of those sketches and ink them up as I needed practice with that as well. This was the 3rd in a row of inks (see previous posts for the other 2).

Original art I used as reference for the initial blue pencil sketch from last night:

Here is me inking the sketch:

Sketch and ink practice... Robin

Based off a cool picture done by Kane79 over at Deviant art, last night I did a quick blue pencil sketch to warm up my skills... been awhile since I have been drawing. Anyways, today I decided to practice my inking. Pentel Pocket brush pen... needs to finally be replaced. Tip just isn't as sharp as it once was. Not bad for about 6 yrs worth of inking on it. Great tool

Original sketch that I used as a reference for sketching last night:

Video of me inking over it. Man... are my lines shaky. The only way this goes away is by drawing/inking more.

Sketching and inking practice. Supergirl 40's era style.

I haven't been drawing in some time so like anything... practice is needed to get the skills back. So, last night I did a bunch of drawings up using random sketches from artists over at Deviant Art and today I began to ink them.

This first video I have made (two more coming) is based on the sketch shown below. Further below is the video.

Adam Masterman is a brilliant cartoonist and this sketch was based off his image below:

Watch the video of me inking it here:

LOL

First drawing in what feels like forever. Tablet sketch/painting. Capitalizing on todays generation... "LOL" is her name and "OMG" is the kind of thing she says.

Today. Blog post 3.

Today day 3. None of my personal shit mattered. People died today... innocent people. Lebanon and Paris. Do your part and pull a John Lennon... spread love as much and as quickly as you can. Once we all stop hurting one another we can finally be considered as an intelligent species.

Vroom vroom sounds

I really enjoy watching real trucks methodically crawling through technical tracks and like to do it with my scale rc trucks as well. I'm just not a race race go fast basher kind of guy I suppose. Drawing a Jeep crawling through the rock obstacles and gates all slow and such is so nice for me. I can almost hear in my mind as I lay down each line the "vroom vroom" sounds. lol

Jeep crawler

3 years ago I could be quoted as saying "I'm not a Jeep guy" and now, fast fwd to present day... I'm driving a Jeep Cherokee (lifted) and all my RC trucks are Jeeps. I draw them all the time too. Now I know what the saying means... "It's a Jeep thing". It can't really be explained. It's just a Jeep thing plain and simple.

So... that said... another Jeep crawling on the rocks.

4x4 trucks and oddness

It's really fun to draw from photo's I am finding but its also.... strange. I'm not entirely sure how to explain it. I mean, drawing as I have always drawn requires closing the eyes and imagining and coming up with unique material out of thin air for the most part. When I draw these however... its duplicating. There is no imagining to do. Its just an odd feeling that I'm not used to I suppose. I realize that as a kid I would do this  kind of drawing always but back then everything was drawn for the first time so the sensation was different. Now... its almost a feeling of cheating. I just feel like perhaps I should be closing my eyes and coming up with these trucks out of my mind instead of duplicating from a photo. Maybe one day I will be able to do that I suppose. Anyways... all that rambling aside... here are two drawings based off photo reference. One drawing based off of an RC truck and one drawing based off a real truck.

If you have a truck, car, RC, whatever... that you want me to draw up for you... give me a shout. A pic like these goes for about $60.

Dance

I like to think that it's random moments of silly playful behavior which keeps a relationship healthy and happy.

If you haven't danced in your kitchen lately... better get on it.

Sketch for the day... best shoe ever?

Depending on who you ask... Converse high tops might be the most iconic running shoe ever made. True, Nike is king of the hill dollar wise and todays generation really doesn't know Converse but those of us who are say... 25 yrs or older all know it and associate it with punk rock fashion mostly. They look great with with a suit as well or even a fancy dress. Guys around my age (49) or older remember actually playing basketball in them.

To me... Converse will always be boss.

Hipster and his fixie

I can't hate on hipsters. Sure, they take the ironic thing a bit far but hey... every generation has its way of making a statement. I myself have a great deal of hipster in me and have been known to rock the handlebar mustache, wool cycling cap and plaid while riding my single speed. Guilty as charged. :)

Todays sketch is a hipster, his fixie, his phone (they always have one), his mustache and his big hair combed back. Thing I hate about sketching with the SchoolG anime pen is the ink takes forever to dry so it smears easily when you brush over it. I need to learn once again to work from the opposite side of the image so I don't drag my hand across. When I used to work with dip pens way back in the day this was how you did it.

Happy Friday everyone!

"shoulda turned left at Albuquerque"

Fun little sized mecha instead of a great big one. Seems the driver needs some help navigating with that map. This was fun little sketch to do. Pencil (red) and then tech pen and brush pen to finish.

Awkward hello

There is always going to be that kinda homely guy with a big heart who falls in love with the pretty girl who is nice but... he just doesn't have a chance with her. Yet. ;) If he plays things right, she will get to know his heart and then its game over. Right? That's the romantic story we guys all hope for but it rarely plays out that way. Such is this complicated thing we call life. It's a fun ride though.

He was drawn first. Next day her which explains the different line weight. Different Pen on the 2nd day. Copic tech pen was used.

Is that mace she is reaching for? I wonder.

Ground control to Major Tom...

I really like making up weird space vehicles and barren landscapes it would seem. Check out those moons and planets!

Showing process: Roughed out with colored pencil which erases easily, begin inking with Pentel Pocket Brush. This thing is about 6 yrs old I think? Still going strong. Impressive.

Final drawing (pencils not erased yet though)

Just sit and jam a bit

I play. Not well but not bad either. Sometimes... it's just nice to lose yourself in the music by sitting there and jamming. You go in with no expectations of being great... you just play. Usually you come out of it feeling great. Sometimes not much happens too but its just good to jam no matter what.

Here is to all those out there who play an instrument and know what I'm talking about.

Cheers

Bring the heat

With each of these quick rough and loose sketches I am finding my hand, fingers and wrist loosening up bit by bit. My hand is still a bit shaky and gets tired so I have a ways to go before I'm back in fine drawing form again. And then there is the mind muscle. Its out of shape too but I am finding the creative juices starting to ooze again and my grey matter is being slowly wrapped up in it. Gross! lol. Anyways... here is another sketch.

Just an image that popped into my noggin today. Some guy... we will call him Rod. His bike and a moment in time.

Flies Friday?

With The Walking Dead right around the corner for the new season, a new Zombie book about to get started sitting here beside me and the fact that I'm attempting to write a story at the moment on this subject matter... I figured I need to draw one of the shuffling grey ones. So... here is a quickie.

Kind of reminds me a bit of K. Kardashian. lol

Time to start drawing again

Like many things in my life, I go hardcore on them for awhile then burn out for a bit but one thing remains constant... I always come full circle back to that thing time and time again. Drawing is no exception. For many months now I just didnt feel the love. Starting to feel it again. More like a wee crush at the moment but thats enough. So... here is a sketch I did up yesterday. Just a rough with a fine tip pen referenced from an image done by an amazing artist Pat Boutin.
