Getting back to it and plans for the new year

Its almost new Years 2014 and I have barely drawn a thing in weeks. I have been moving you see and its hard to get into it when your entire life is upside down, misplaced and packed in cardboard. We are settling into our new suite and as such... time to get back into things. My goal this year? To get my old arse back in better shape for the summer and the 30yr school reunion, to do even more commission work as well as put together my first illustrated book. Too many years have been wasted away and when I look back... I'm not overly happy with my body of work. Pun intended (applicable to my fitness as well as art). ;p

Tonight... 20 minute fast warm up sketches and then draw something hovering at the back of my mind.

Oh Canada

There is a lot of white stuff up here in Canada right now... cold too in my neck of the woods. Brings to mind our most famous Canadian... yes, that guy... Logan. A late night sketch on my tablet.

Leeloo and m001TiPa55

(see what I did there?)

I took my sketch done earlier of the nude body study and the bot and turned it into this. No... there is no robot in the movie but there is in this picture.

Lunch hour Kitties

I'm still trying to get a handle on drawing cats so I can take on a commission coming up featuring... cats. After a quick page of cats... it kind of led me to a cat themed raver type girl. A natural progression right?

Tank Girl

Just a fun Tank Girl sketch I did up for a challenge thrown down by me with some other artists over at Outcast Studios.com. Good fun having art battles. I would tell you the winner but at this moment of posting... its on going so I don't know.

Family battle

This series of pics is a commission for a gal who wanted something for her kids for xmas. I took it a step further and made it into 3 images. You have the son on the left coming to the rescue as older boys might be inclined to do. You have the daughter on the right scrapping it up with a Dragon type creature and the dragon pic is basically for the mom who commissioned me to begin with. This way... 3 people get 3 gifts and they are all connected to the other. Perfect for the family I figure.

Love

My friend David commissioned me to do up a zombie picture of him and his girlfriend. I figured... how about the two of them stuck forever in a teacup ride where they gnaw on each other now and then. Like lovers do right?

The Bodygaurd

This is a commission for my good friend Katie Jeter. Her nephew has been troubled with illness most his life and she thought it would be neat for him to have a guardian angel of sorts. I figured... how about a great big bad ass mofo of a robot to hang around and be your guardian? That is the inspiration behind this image and the story. Two bullies getting bullied back and the big question put forth... Erase them from the face of the planet or no?

Doom Buggy

I keep forgetting I have a blog. I have so many images to upload now as a result of that forgetfulness. Here is the latest. Digital sketch on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Tablet and then painted.

Assassins Creed

Todays DSC at Outcast Studios.com is Assassins Creed. I enjoyed this challenge as I tend to avoid fabrics and this character has plenty of layers and folds. I still could have done more with that aspect of the challenge but I was content just racing through this and doing some loose folds and bends in his clothing and seeing if it worked or not. You tell me if it did.

Naked Snake

Todays Daily Sketch Challenge over at Outcast Studios.com is Naked Snake. He is some kind of soldier from a video game. Now I ask you... what kind of handle is "Naked Snake"? Must be something that is lost in translation from the Asian market into the North American one. Its just a guess. It cant be on purpose. Can it?

Here is my doodle

Mr. Rager

I have been considering getting into water colours and using them with my comic work for pretty much decades. I dont know exactly why I havent yet. I think mostly its being forgetful. Sometimes its being lazy. I decided tonight to at least start the learning process. I have a long ways to go i can tell but life is all about pushing yourself to learn new things and as such, I really enjoyed the process tonight. After goofing around for an hour or so and watching a couple YouTube videos (man, I really love the internet)... I gave it a go.

Here is Mr. Rager. An angry young man that has been beating around inside my head for about two weeks ever since I discovered the Kid Cudi song of the same name.

The Dragon with the girl tattoo

Suddenly had this idea of a dragon with a girl tattoo instead of a girl with a dragon tattoo like we all know. So... I set about making the idea into a sketch and then took that sketch to completion. All done via the iPad.

Darling Nikki... zombie killah!

I draw Google plusser Nikki Crome far too often. lol. She is just so great looking with her unique bone structure and her personality shines through. I felt like drawing this exact image and struggled with a face until it came time to make the image of a zombie killer with attitude and immediately I pictured her face in the shot. So... I made it so. One bad ass little lady zombie killer for your enjoyment. Drawn on ye old iPad.

Logan, The process

Hi folks... made this fun image today of an older Logan (Wolverine). Being 47 myself, I feel supers need to age with me. lol. Hey... he aged to the age he is now right? Why cant he age just a bit more? Maybe something happened to his healing factor for about 20 yrs or something? Anyways, I did this image up on my iPad which is my tool of choice this year. I used Procreate app to do all the heavy lifting and then tweaked it with Strip Design app. You can see I rough it all up in blue lines on one layer then move to a new layer where I start laying down my inks. Once done I work layer by layer doing the colors so that I can erase or adjust them without worrying about the other layers. LOVE working with layers now.

The 300. And 1.

I read this funny script online one day and it inspired me to create this humorous poke at The 300. My Persian friend particularly loved it as she knows all too well the truth and the fiction of this historic tale. Anyways... hope you enjoy. (click image to see it larger if need be). Oh... one more thing... Yes, that is me in a speedo at the end. Sorry.
