300 Prompts - Asteroids and Milky Way

This page in the book was split diagonally so two days share one page. If you look closely, you can see a wee man on one of the asteroids.

300 prompts - Dr Seuss Hat

Had to look up what that hat looked like as a reminder and I noticed the crazy brush work he used to draw his hats. I tried to duplicate that but being that I used a tech pen... the line weight is very different.

300 drawing prompts

I came across a book the other day that gives you drawing prompts so figured I would give it a go. That is one of my key struggles as an artist is coming up with idea's for things to draw. I'm not normally the kind of guy who chooses the mundane such as a shoe or table for my topics but maybe that's where I'm missing out. Anyways... drawing anything is good... keeps the "rust" off. First drawing... Angel Wings. I totally mutilated the poor girls anatomy below the waist so forgive me on that. It's the wings that matter. The wings! :)

More comic work

Haven't put much pen to paper over the week with other things going on but last night I dug in, finished pg 5 and then pumped out pg 6. This Geedo character was just a quick on the spot creation that I figured would die off in short order or maybe we would see him (it) randomly through the comic but the more I look at him, the more I'm liking him and thinking he might make more appearances. Anyways, here is a quick shot of Geedo and a snapshot of pg 6 to give you an idea.

Sequentials spilling out of my pen lately

I have been itching to do some sequentials for ages but really lacking in idea's of what the story would be about. Then this weekend I was thumbing through sketchbooks I had done and realized that within those pages is a story almost. The old sketches stimulated an idea and off I went. I got two pages drawn up in one night even! Here is the first one.

Me and my Jeep Cherokee

It's a 96 Jeep Cherokee sport in Black. I'm so tired of this snow that all I think about right now is driving up in the mountains and camping. It haunts my every waking hour.

Tank Girl and Booga, the early days

Just a doodle I had banging around in my noggin. I let it out.

Folds study

Just practicing how cloth drapes over people. Kind of messed up on his left arm... our right. I will go back and figure that out I suppose. For now... a guy, in a field, channeling his inner Clint Eastwood I guess. :)

Master studies

As I often tend to do... I surf others art looking for inspiration and when I find it, I collect it and eventually try to learn from it. This is one such case.

Lt. Deek Williams - Space Marine

Just a fun character idea stimulated from someones similar drawings I came across on the web.

Wiggle Wiggle

Come on be honest... you have all done this at some time for a certain lady - out of the shower and wiggle it a few times for her.

Btw... you may think they like it but I hear they don't. It's strictly a guy thing.

More Mignola studying

Continuing with my studying of Mike Mignola's stylings. Very tough. You look at his work and say "oh hell... I could duplicate that" and then you start to try... emphasis on the word "try"... and ultimately fail. But, you do learn stuff from trying.

Mignola master study

I decided to spend some time studying Mike Mignola's work (Hellboy) to try and wrap my head around how he does it. On the outside his work looks so simple... elementary school simple but it really isn't. The more I try my hand at duplicating his styling the more I am struck by how his mind might be working. Most of us use one light source... he appears to use three. And then sometimes he breaks the rules of the light source and spot blacks in a place that he shouldn't but he does it in a way that it works and you forgive him for breaking said rule. There actually is genius at work with him.

Mikes work on the left and my interpretation on the right.

Ladies and their skills

It doesn't happen often but now and then I meet one of these gals. You know the ones... make you feel all manly and stuff by touching your arm muscle or laughing at your super stupid jokes. It's fairly transparent and obvious but regardless.. it makes you feel kinda good.

Just some sketching

Random pen to paper to see what happens. Do you have people in your life you would like to see cartooned up like this maybe? I can draw one up for $10 how about? Maybe a comic page for $25? You write the script and give me some photo's of the people to work off of and I will scratch out a simple little indie style comic for you. If you want it more refined, colored, digital, whatever...we can haggle out a price.

Mundane - More or Less #10

The (other) beautiful game... Darts! Never have I been so personally challenged to succeed and yet fail all the time. Unlike Golf in which you can never have a "perfect game" - A hole in one every single shot... you CAN have a perfect game in darts. The Pro's do it often. It's referred to as a 9 darter. The absolute minimum you can score from 501 to 0 is with 9 darts thrown. I to date have thrown a personal best of 13 darts only and have been throwing 4 days a week for 3 yrs now to give you some idea of this task. It's a game of millimeters between success and failure. One little twitch of your body and the dart goes astray. A breathe at the wrong time maybe or maybe your arm muscles are different today than yesterday (ie: you worked out the other day). All can effect your accuracy. It's amazing really that the human body can correlate the trajectory from what the eye sees to the release at the end of the fingers and put a small projectile just short of 8 fee away. It's a frustrating game too because even though you are competing against someone, you're not really. You are competing with yourself. There is no defense in this game... just your body and your head and a race to the 0 before the other guy gets there. You are after your own personal best basically. As much as I will swear at my darts, at my hand, at my mind... I love the game. I really do.

Beware the creeper

Just had an image of a creepy kinda thing so drew it. Don't read into it. Idea's pop in and out just as quickly and often have no real meaning behind them other than "what if"?

Tony Bourne fan art

A good internet friend of mine is an exceptional artist in my opinion and a fantastic guy. Check out his webcomic at the link below. This image is just drawn in his general style but with my own style as well.

The 388th

Mundane - More or Less #9

Got the winter blues. Sigh. Just have to suffer it out a little longer and then the warm will come.

Mr. Creepy

Went with a creepy vibe today. The smudge on his head is some white out but it showed up on the photo when taken. Ah well. You get the idea.

Question for you all... if I were to set up a patreon account where you can contribute each month a minimum and maximum amount  per image I upload... would you be interested in supporting such an endeavor? Consider it a commission type of thing. Patreon supporters would let me know what they want me to draw perhaps? Something along that line. Let me know your thoughts or even suggestions. Thanks for supporting me.

Green Goblin

Playing around with a perspective angle I have never used before. Challenging. Didn't quite nail it but ah well... gotta pump out a thousand images before you make that amazing one. Chalk this up to one of those thousands made over the years.

Who?

Continuing on with the Ghostbusters theme... drew this guy with my own version of the pack/gun thing they use. I figured it was an appropriate time to use the Kirby crackle.

That slimy guy

I definitely had fun with this one.

New pen, new book, new studies

Reference artist named "Zedig" and new tools to play with. Scratching lines with a Pentel Stylo. Interesting pen. I like it.

Sad times

When you draw Mcque-esque flying boats... you need to include flying whales right?

Things are always exciting at the Hero bar. Not really.

Sometimes just sitting with yer buds and having a cold one with a bit of small talk is all you need in life. A new strip done entirely on my Galaxy Note 5 phone.

Line therapy

Some folks color when they just need to zone out for a bit and relax. Others sit back and listen to music and so on. I tend to draw but a specific type of drawing... usually technical stuff with gears and metal and that sort of thing. That's what took place last night. Just some mind numbing lines being laid down and this is what came of it.

Ian Mcque inspired sketch

I have a whole ton of stuff printed off that is from Ian Mcque. I adore his work. the other day I used an image I found on the web as the foundation for this sketch. Not much of my sketch is all that original from the original I guess. I rough sketched the basics and then went to town trying to be creative with angles and machinery parts, etc. In the end its different but the same you could say. :)

Original found here

Character studies and expressions

As often is the case... some of these are based off existing artists as I study them and some of these are all me. Hard to say which being that I drew these several days ago and I can't even remember what I had for breakfast today.

a DAB will do ya

Today's drawing was a tribute to one of the stupidest things (in my opinion) that took place in 2016... the bottle challenge and the Dab. FYI... when you have an inch of water in a water bottle... the odds of landing a flipped bottle is about 90% so it's not a real hard thing to accomplish. Do it with an empty bottle or a full bottle and you will get a bit of respect from this guy. And then there is the Dab dance move. SO annoying. Ah well... that's culture for you... full of annoyances. I will live.

Hero Bar - Xmas tribute

Trying my hand at a comic strip kinda thing. Drawn 100% on my Samsung Galaxy Note5 mobile device using Sketchbook Pro.

Corporal Punishment, The Badgerine and Ladybug Man chillin' at the local watering hole for hero types.
